Wire Wrapped Princess Kate Engagement Ring

SBSWJ cover
I’m so very thrilled and blessed to have my wire wrapped version of the Princess Diana/ Princess Kate Engagement Ring featured in the October/November 2016 issue of Step by Step Wire Jewelry Magazine!! Denise Peck introAND it made the cover too – woo hoo!! Denise Peck, chief editor for the magazine, also wrote a truly lovely intro for it.

There are a few ‘typos’ in the issue, that will be corrected in the digital version, wire wrapped princess Kate ring but sadly it’s too expensive to correct and reprint the newsstand version. One of the most important ‘boo boos’ (aside from spelling my name wrong on the cover) is they listed my Etsy shop, MyWiredImagination.ety.com as having the wire for the project – um…. no!  The resources should’ve read: Wire and Tools from RioGrande.com , Crystals and settings from MyWiredImagination.Etsy.com, and crystal beads from EurekaCrystalBeads.com

All in all, I’m really thrilled with how it turned out!! Look for the issue on newsstands starting Sept 15th!

CraftHub vs Etsy Instant Download Service

crafthub vs etsySo you got all excited that Etsy finally offers digital media sellers instant download and it’s free, right? Well you know the old saying “You get what you paid for”?  Before you bash me for my opinion though , please hear me out. I’m not down on Etsy – I love my shop, and Etsy in general. It’s just their instant download service I don’t like. I did purchase a digital listing from an Etsy seller I knew was using Etsy’s system so I could see how their system works. I can’t and won’t try it from a seller’s perspective, because I don’t want to permanently give Etsy any of my files. I have however read and followed every bit of the discussions on the Etsy Digital Team.

Now if you’re new to selling digital media, only have a few small files, and don’t care anything about having control over your products and branding, then Etsy’s service might be right for you. If even one of those points don’t apply to you though – keep reading.

CraftHub is a paid service  – $8.00 mthly for Basic service (50MB file size limit) and $15.00 mthly for Premium service (100MB file size limit, product stats, and customizable listings – more on that in a bit). Both plans include unlimited transactions and download reporting. CraftHub also offers a 14 day free trial. –  Etsy’s service is free (for now).

CraftHub offers file size limits up to 100MB – Etsy recently upped their file size limit from 10MB to 20MB.

CraftHub offers an extensive account dashboard where you can easily manage every aspect of your files and related listings. Etsy? Nope.

With CraftHub, you upload all your files at one time (or whenever you want really), and attach them to your listings as needed; and you can attach as many files as you want or need to any listing. Easily upload an edited file, and it automatically attaches the edited file to the listing. – With Etsy, you upload your files every time you create or edit your listing, with a maximum of 5 files per listing. Edit your file, and you have to edit the listing and upload it again.

With CraftHub, you have the ability to remove or edit files from previous purchases. – With Etsy? Nope.

With CraftHub, YOU decide the download limits – how long the customer has to download the file(s), how many times the customer can download the file(s), even the ability to lock the download to the first IP address the file is downloaded to.  You can also disable or refresh a link at any time. – With Etsy, THEY decided – your files are in the buyers purchases page indefinitely and the customer can download it as many times as they wish.

With CraftHub, you can easily see what IP address(s) the file(s) went to, exactly when they were downloaded to the second, where the IP address is located, and if necessary, instantly kill the link if you suspect abuse. – With Etsy all you get to see, is IF the file(s) were downloaded – not when or where. And from what I’ve read on their Digital Team, Etsy doesn’t intend to provide that information any time soon.

With CraftHub, you can easily customize and brand both the download email to your customers and the download landing page they visit. And when I say customize, I do mean customize! Both have FULL text editing with HTML allowed. If you’re not computer savvy – CraftHub provides extensive tutorials to help you craft the perfect email and landing page.  – With Etsy? Well they did recently add another generic “Message to Buyers for digital items” text box on your shop info and appearance tab.

CraftHub offers the ability to create Ad Hoc links for any file uploaded to CraftHub whether it’s attached to a listing or not. (More info on Ad Hoc Links) – Etsy? Nope

CraftHub recently added a new feature for sellers to create a custom promotional listing. Want to offer a “Buy ___, Get ___ Free” or “Buy Any ___ for $__ Your Choice” type of listing? CraftHub gives you the tools to do that. You select any and all files you want to include, and the customer gets to see all their choices and choose what they want.  – Etsy? Nope, nada, never will.

CraftHub is also working to develop promotional listings that would combine physical and digital products (think “buy any __physical products get __ digital products free”); automatic reminder notices for customers whose links are about to expire; and Digital File Delivery and Management for other selling venues like ArtFire, and/or stand alone personal websites. – Etsy? Nope (probably more like “not just no but hell no”)

I hope you’ve stuck with me all the way through! I am not in any way related to CraftHub admin, nor do I get any monetary benefit for posting all this info – I  just passionately believe in CraftHub’s benefits, and needed to share.      If you’d like to learn more, check out CraftHub’s awesome website here.

Hope to see ya again soon,

The winner for the 14k GF wire and Vintage Swarovski Crystals in Peridot and Tourmaline ring is Lindell Radl0ff, who was the first to correctly guess size 5. Since I already have your mailing address Lindell, your new shiny is all bundled up, and off to the PO tomorrow.

The next ring with the most comments and “likes” on Facebook is this one in 14k GF wire and Vintage Swarovski Crystals in Tanzanite. Some of the rings that will end up in this game, may have minor flaws that prevent me from selling them (I am my own worst critic)  – this ring however doesn’t have any flaws; I just thought it’d be fun to add to the game. It is a slight variation on my Marcella Crystal Ring 2 tutorial, which btw is on sale right now – just sayn’ 😉

Sooooo –  post your guess for the size here in the comments, and the first one to correctly guess will win the ring – FREE.  Guesses are only valid here on my blog – 1 guess per person – and if you win a ring, please be fair, and don’t try to win another one for a month. There will be plenty of rings in the future, I promise .

Have fun with game – don’t forget to subscribe to my blog, so you get notified as soon as I post a winner (it may be you) and a new ring.

It Pays to Be a PackRat

DSC_4683I am a die-hard Pack Rat – It’s awful – I don’t let go of anything that has the remote possibility of being useful. Note I said ‘pack rat’ not ‘hoarder’ –  there’s a difference – garbage is garbage, but there is lots of useful “stuff” in my collection.  This is one such piece of “stuff”.

I have been playing around with a micro-torch lately, and needed a kiln imagesflame proof work surface – not good to set your bench on fire. I nearly fell off my chair with kiddyness when I remembered this old kiln in my garage. It was a ‘gift’ almost 30 years ago, and I’ve hung on to it all this time, despite not having any idea how to use it – it has no power cord, but looks like it should have one. I’ve never been able to find any useful info on it despite having the brand name “Nova” and the model and serial number. Kiln top and bottomThere are 4 pieces to it; 2 lined cylinders, and the top and bottom which I use to torch on.

My first soldered ringThe cylinders are still in the garage (I’ll find a use for them sooner or later ;)) and I have a great surface to torch on without setting my bench on fire.

Soooooo, what’s in your garage? 😀

See ya again soon,

Bobbi

Happy Holidays and Guess My Size

Guess My Size #1

Good morning fellow jewelry junkies – are you having a good holidays? Mine have been okay, though I’ve been having to deal with some ugly personal issues, but that story is for another day, and not what I’m writing about today.

Some of you may have noticed the ring sale I have running in my Etsy Shop – now even though I’m saving for a good video camera to do video tutorials (Santa skipped my house), and taking advantage of my sale would be really cool, that’s not why I’m writing today either. 🙂

Aside from needing a video camera, I started the sale because I realized I’m buried in rings. You see when I make rings (and all jewelry in general) I don’t really make them with shop inventory in mind. To break it down, I’d say about 50% are made in developing new designs for tutorials; 20% I make for myself (though I really don’t need any more); and the other 30% I make just to see what I come up with.

While I was (am) photographing and listing pieces, I’ve run across quite a few, that for one reason or another I can’t “sell” them. To me they have some kind of  ‘flaw’, and I would hate for someone to buy them and notice the flaw, though I am my own worst critic (I’m told), and the buyer probably wouldn’t see a flaw.

In any case, I can’t just throw them away – they are all made with good crystals or gems and Sterling Silver and/or 14K Gold Filled wire. Soooo, the reason I’m writing this post (you knew I’d get around to it sooner or later) is to have some fun with them.

:)Simply put – You guess the ring’s size, and I’ll send it to you – for FREE. Yes, you read that right – for FREE, the first person to guess the size of the current ring offered gets that ring, no strings attached. I’m only going to post one ring at a time – when someone wins it, I’ll post another one (I have about a half dozen or so right now, and I’m sure I’ll add more). If you’d like a sneak peek at some of the rings that will end up in this game, I will post them on my Facebook Page in the photo folder “Guess My Size” – note: the order of the photos is not the order they will show up here, hee hee.

You’re welcome to comment on the photos, but guesses posted on rings other than the current ring won’t count and will be deleted. I guess that would be a rule  – there has to be rules right?   Rule #2 – You have to subscribe to my blog  – that’s to your benefit too, so you get notified the minute I post a new ring in the game 🙂 Rule #3 – You only get 2 guesses – one in a comment here, and one on the Facebook post – if you post more guesses in either place, I’ll just use your first ones. That’s enough rules right? Play nice so I don’t have to add anymore 🙂 For a third guess at the current ring offered, share this post on Facebook, and let me know in a comment here or on Facebook 🙂

Guess my size #1The first ring up is Sterling Silver and a Vintage Swarovski Crystal that WAS the color ‘Seal’. The ring was in the tumbler for only 5 stinkin’ minutes, and all the color’s gone? See the ‘flaw’? 🙂 As a rule, short spins in the tumbler have no affect on the crystals, but not for this one I guess. I suppose I should be grateful to find that out now, but I paid an awful lot for those crystals to have the color come right out :(. Other than that it’s a great ring – have fun, and Guess My Size 😀

See ya soon – good luck,

Bobbi
