Cool Tools for Etsy Sellers

Let me start by saying I LOVE working for myself. Granted the hours are very long – on average 12 to 16 hours a day, every day; no paid sick days, no paid vacation days, and the constant feeling I’m sooooo far behind. You might think I’m whining, but I’m not – okay maybe just a teensy bit, but I’ll try to keep it at a minimum.

I would love to have an assistant, but it’s just not in my budget – I hear you snickering – yes I have a budget. O.o   So instead of an assistant, I’ve been on the hunt for some simple tools to help with the workload. I’ve found several that are so far really useful, and thought I’d share. 🙂 All of these are built on the Etsy API so they integrate with your Etsy flawlessly.

First up is Etsy Shoptimizer – It’s a free app that is a ‘report card’ of sorts to help you optimize your shop. It’s super simple to use and covers a ton of useful information and suggestions.

An oldy but a goody I use on a weekly basis is Craftoplolis also know as Etsy Shop Lovers. It can be a little slow to load if you have a ton of product in your shop, but it’s incredibly useful to see “hearts” , listing information, and batch edit your listings for everything but tags.

Which brings me to one of the newer tools I’ve tried;  BETSI – Bulk/Batch Editing Tool. There are 2 versions; one at a $9.00 monthly subscription rate, and a free BETSI lite. I personally like the full version, and think the subscription rate is well worth it. BETSI Lite would work really well for newer shops with fewer listings, and little to no deactivated or expired listings. There are several other batch editing tools available; some I just didn’t care for and a couple I hated, but you can decide what works best for you.

The newest tool I found is something of a “Holy Grail” kind of app for any Etsy Seller with digital products. Instant Digital Download Delivery for your Etsy shop by CraftHub.me. It is built on the Etsy API but not yet on their apps list – it only just became live August 16th. It was super simple to set up, and you get 5 transactions for free to test drive it. “Transaction” is defined by total sale, not the number of files sold. 🙂 There are several payment plans to suit your needs, and you can upgrade as your sales grow. If you do a search on Etsy for instant downloads you’ll see a ton of listings, but if you read their descriptions you’ll see they’re confused on what instant is – “within 24 hours” is NOT instant. As far as I can tell there are currently only 4 shops that truly have Instant Download available – (one created her own coding) and the 3 shops using CraftHub – Me 😀, SwellandGrand printable invitations, and FancyDogStudio who is partnered with CraftHub. I’m sure this list will grow as word gets around.

There are tons of other tools for Etsy sellers and buyers available. If you haven’t ever clicked the little link in the lower left corner of Your Etsy Resources you really should. I’m sure there is an app for just about everyone!!!

You could find the perfect assistant you’ve been searching for. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by – comments and questions are always welcome!

wrap happy ~ Bobbi

Corra’s Rosabella Tutorial Pendants

These pendants were made from Corra’s wonderful Rosabella Pendant Tutorial. They were so much fun to do, and quite addicting. I coiled the wire first – 30g Fine Silver over a 26g core – and added had-set 4mm and 5mm faceted Alexandrite in the centers.

Alexandrite is my favorite faceted stone, though it is a real pain to photograph with the color changes.

Many many thanks for sharing your wonderful designs Corra!!

Thank you for visiting….

Todays Featured Artist – Perri J. – Shaktipaj Designs

Perri is one of my favorite wire workers, her designs and creativity constantly challenge and inspire the imagination. Now I am a self taught wire wrapper – when I started more than 20 years ago, techniques were these closely guarded secrets, no one was willing to share. So I learned by studying finished pieces to work out the techniques for myself. Most of what I see today, I can figure out – not to copy – but for my own need to learn and understand. And not to say, that most designs are simple, and easily re-creatable – that’s not what I mean – I am just very good at visualizing it in my head, since that’s how I learned wire in the first place.
Perri’s designs however continue to elude and astound me. Another point – I live, breath, and dream about wire and designs – it is my passion. I can’t count the hours I’ve spent experimenting with what wire can and can not do. Perri designs have sent me back to the drawing board on those ideas too. I study her pieces, and can’t help think, “you shouldn’t be able to do that with wire”, but she does – time and again.
She shares some of her wonderful designs in her shop on Etsy ShaktipajDesigns, and if that doesn’t provide enough eye candy for you, many wonderful, wonderful pieces can be found on her blog.

Just make sure you don’t drool onto your keyboard……
Thanks for visiting – see ya soon…..

Today’s Featured Artist – MailleMystique

My first love has always been and will always be wire work, but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate other forms of metalwork – I do. I have actually spent a great deal of time learning and working chainmaille. Despite being on the tedious side, it can be very relaxing – even calming. One dear friend on Etsy – who by the way swears she couldn’t do wire wrapping to save her soul – runs circles around me in chainmaille. Meet Deb of MailleMystique. Now I know a lot of folks regard chainmaille as a ‘Renaissance Fair’ craft with images of maille clothing and such coming to mind first, but Deb creates beautiful jewelry that goes far past that. One piece in particular.
The weave is called Jens Pind. I actually have done this weave, although it took me almost a month to work it out, and complete a bracelet. The problem with this weave is getting the ratio of wire guage to ring diameter just right. If the ring size or wire gauge is off even by as little as 1mm, the pattern won’t hold and falls apart. Now if that was not enough of a challenge, Deb does it in square wire jump rings. The thought of trying that makes my head hurt. I’ll think I’ll stick to my wire wrapping, and leave chainmaille to the pros – Deb of MailleMystique. Please visit her shop on Etsy for some truly beautiful jewelry……

Thanks for visiting – see ya soon……

Today’s Featured Artist – LiLithu aka Ewa

As you may have noticed by now, my favorite stomping ground is Etsy. Ewa whose shop is LiLithu, is another wonderful artist I ran across there. This bracelet is what originally caught my eye, the attention to detail, and skill resulted in an absolutely stunning piece. All of her pieces though, show that same attention to detail, and creativity.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stared aka drooled over her work. I suppose the biggest thing that impresses me is the perfection in her wrapping. Now I am a picky, picky wire wrapper myself so I notice when a wire is out of place, or wraps aren’t quite straight – but if you look really, really close at Ewa’s pieces, you won’t find ANY wires out of place, or wraps not straight. Sheer perfection!!! Please visit Ewa’s shop LiLithu for these and other wonderful goodies.

Thanks for visiting, see ya again soon….

Today’s Featured Artist – Justin – DuPuis Designs

I ran across this artist a few days ago and was blown away…. His shop DuPoisDesigns is fairly new to Etsy- and he only has one piece in it – but what a piece!!!

Then on top of that, if you look in his profile, he’s only been wire wrapping since August 2007. –

OMG – Which by the way is what I named his pictures when I saved them to post here.

If this is what he does after only one year, I can’t wait to see what he does next………….

Thank you for visiting………………

Todays Featured Artist – Earrings By Erin

I was introduced to Erin’s exquisite work through Corra. I drool over her pieces on a regular bases, they are just to die for.

Her designs are
contemporary, but with a definite old world feel to them. Each piece is meticulously hand crafted with enviable skill.

I love all of her pieces!! My only regret in seeing her work, is that my checkbook isn’t healthier.

You can find these and other wonderful goodies and tutorials in her shop on Etsy. – And tutorials for select pieces and designs at JewelryLessons.com

Thank you for visiting – Stop back again soon………..

Today’s Featured Artist – Ryan Cullity

I spend A LOT of time roaming around the handmade community Etsy. My travels recently rewarded me with finding this wonderful wire wrapper Ryan Cullity. His style is what I would classify as ‘organic’ He’s created truly unique, one-of-a-kind pieces with equally unique names such as Bobbing for Poodles,
Teenage Lobotomy, and Carry the One, and the piece that caught my eye in the first place Tryclyde. Please visit Ryan’s Shop for these and other wonderful goodies….

Featured Artist – Corra

One of my favorite Bhuddha quotes says “there are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth; not going all the way, and not starting.” So it’s only fitting I start with a very dear friend and fellow wire Artist Corra . She combines traditional Chinese knots with wire, and creates absolutely exquisite jewelry.

These earrings are one of her newest designs, and I absolutely adore them…..

She generously shares her ideas and designs in tutorials available in her shop on Etsy. This is her latest tutorial – my personal favorite – Passiflora Studs

I hope you enjoy meeting some of my ‘wired’ friends, old and new – there’s more to come…..

Thanks for visiting ~Bobbi

Why I Do What I Do…..Showing Off Some Gifted Artists/Students

This post has been a long time in the making – mostly because of what had become a very hectic schedule for a time – but now that things have calmed down a bit, I thought I’d share some work of some very talented artists, who have chosen to take a bash at some of my designs….. After all the hard work that goes into writing, photographing and publishing a tutorial, nothing is more gratifying and flattering than to get photos from fellow artists, who have chosen my designs to create with…… It is why I do what I do and makes all the hard work well worth it….

Kelley from Silvery Ever After… chose my Swarvoski Crystal Bangle Tutorial – and did a wonderful variation in Sterling Silver, and a great blue-green-champagne color combination……
I love her color choices, and in Sterling, she created a stunning bracelet.

She modified the clasp a bit to better suit her needs, and all in all did a wonderful job.

She recently purchased my Fancy Band Prong Ring Tutorial, and I can’t wait to see where she takes it to.

My dear friend Marika, chose my Antique Style All Wire Earrings Tutorial, and created a wonderfully vintage looking pair of earrings in Sterling Silver…..

Marika’s wire wrapping skills are growing in leaps and bounds, and she has lots of wonderful pieces in her store on Dawanda.

Then there’s Karlene who fell in love with my
Fancy Band Prong Ring Tutorial. After her first ring, she went to town, and tried her hand at a double stone ring similar to one shown in my tutorial.
I think she did a wonderful job….
You can visit Karlene at Celtic Gardens Creations.

.And lastly, but certainly not least is Shi . She also fell in love with my Fancy Band Ring Tutorial, and fell hard :)….
This is the first one that she did and featured on her blog.
I can tell you , there is never any better compliments, than when a fellow artist falls in love with your design, and creates such beautiful pieces. You can visit Shi at her Etsy Store ShiJewels , for these and other fabulous goodies.

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing these wonderful creations from some of my fellow artists, as much as I have enjoyed sharing them…..
If you’re interested in learning and creating your own versions of my designs, please visit my shop on Etsy. – I’ve recently added new patterns in the Complete Kit/Tutorial section.

Thanks for visiting………………..~Bobbi
